What a day! We released TWO of our butterflies (see our pictures!), had bus safety presentations, a lock down drill and celebrated our reading with stuffed animal friends! It was a busy morning, but we had a bunch of fun.
Many students might come home talking about our Lock Down Drill. We simply locked the doors, turned off the lights, sat quietly on the carpet and talked about what to do if there was an intruder in the building. I emphasized that this was not really happening and it was just like how we practice a fire drill. Our main goal during a real lock down is to exit the building as quickly and safely as possible and Mrs. Essary's "safe spot" is across the parking lot to the opposite side of the church nearby. We discussed it and I answered many questions about safety and "what ifs". We also talked about the importance of never opening a door for an adult - even if you know them - here at school and to let the office "buzz" them in. I did let them know that with all of the "what ifs" and questions that there were - My job, as their teacher, is to protect them and keep them safe. It was a productive conversation. If you or your child have questions about this drill, please let me know.
Have a great weekend!
Welcome!
Welcome to Mrs. Essary's Kindergarten website! Thank you for visiting. My goal for this site is to provide families with some frequent information about our Kindergarten classroom, events and learning. You might find pictures, homework/lesson help or explanations and fun facts about our classroom. Please check in from time to time as I am hoping to update a few times each week. If you have any suggestions for what else you would like to see on this page, please let me know. This will give us one more way to interact and stay in touch from school to home. Thanks!
